Scottish Monuments and Houses

You could spend your whole time here visiting shrines to the famous Scots who have shaped our history. Scots invented the telephone and the television, penicillin and the steamboat. A Scotsman founded the world’s first savings bank, and another was the first governor of the Bank of England. Burns, Scott and Buchan are household names. So are Bruce and Wallace. Maybe its time to take the trip down Scotland’s memory lane.

Accessed by an underground tunnel, the cave was used as a place of prayer over 900 years ago by Margaret, a Saxon princess who became Queen of Scotland when she married King Malcolm Canmore around 1070.

Manderston is the country house of Edwardian Scotland, standing in 56 acres of formal and informal gardens.

Arniston House is a magnificent William Adam, Palladian style mansion house set in acres of beautiful parkland just 11 miles from Edinburgh.

Two of Scotland’s finest examples of architecture, and highlighting Orkney’s close Norse and ecclesiastical links, the palaces are located near St Magnus cathedral.

Trumland House is a Jacobean-style mansion designed by David Bryce and completed in 1876.

April - October, Dumfries and Galloway
