Isles of Lewis and Harris - what's on

Though actually part of the same landmass, Lewis and Harris are looked upon as different islands, each with its own distinctive culture, traditions and heritage. Sitting below Lewis, Harris has an unmistakable mountainous skyline which includes Clisham, the highest peak in the Outer Hebrides at 799 metres. Its charming village capital, Tarbert, has a ferry link to Skye. Harris hosts a number of annual events, including the Harris half marathon, the South Harris Agricultural Show at Leverburgh, and the Harris Arts Festival. Sitting above Harris, and the larger of the two islands, Lewis is enriched by many famous prehistoric attractions including the 9-metre high Iron Age fort, Carloway Broch, and the Callanish standing stones - ranked only second in importance to Stonehenge. Lewis is fairly flat, with spectacular sandy beaches and a rugged coastline. It’s great for fishing, cycling, walking and bird-watching. The capital of Lewis is Stornoway, which has much to offer visitors. The Sail Hebrides Maritime Festival and the Hebridean Celtic Festival are just two of the events held on Lewis each year.
